One place, several functions

A place where the powers that be meet...

One place, a thousand lives

In the past, the vast space of the cloister served several functions: place of prayer, procession, cemetery, public square... Notables and guilds held meetings there, as did the city council. This occupation shows how much the cloister has been and remains essential in the life of the city. Finally, it was a rare occurrence that the judicial, administrative and religious powers coincided, not to mention its role as a forum for merchants.

Today, the cloister of Bayonne Cathedral is a space for discovering the city's heritage and for walking , where mineral and vegetation interact harmoniously.
