A place of pilgrimage
Listed as a World Heritage Site byUNESCO, the cloister of Bayonne Cathedral is a must-see in tourist guides.
In 1998, as part of the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela in France, a series of high places were recognized for having marked history. The Sainte Marie cathedral and its cloister are part of it since they welcomed, since the Middle Ages, pilgrims coming from all over Europe, on their way to Spain to go to Compostela on the tomb of Saint James.
